Body

六色网 certified hand therapist and occupational therapist Michelle Annes, OTR/L, CHT, recently was featured in The New York Times — sharing exercises to improve upper-body mobility and functional movement so individuals can confidently handle everyday tasks, such as opening a jar or lifting a bag and engaging in hobbies they love like cooking or gardening.

For , Michelle shared eight exercises to improve mobility and positioning of the hand, wrists and shoulders. The exercises are designed to help prevent or ease pain and stiffness that can result from aging, repetitive daily activities or conditions such as arthritis, tendinitis or carpal tunnel syndrome.

The low-intensity routine takes about 10 to 15 minutes once or twice per day, two to three days per week, and it is designed for people to do easily at their desks during workday breaks. Michelle recommends a few seconds of rest in between each exercise.

Exercises include scapular squeezes to target back and shoulder muscles; wrist circles; wrist stretches to stretch the muscles on the underside and back of the forearm; rubber band exercises to target the small muscles of the hand; and more.
